Super Sunday

Hawthorn CC's SUPER SUNDAY, 15th Feb. '09 at Rathmines Road was a great day, showcasing all age levels of cricket within the club, in a fun packed day of activities.

Kicking off was the Milo In2 Cricket kids under the guidance of Tony Tongue and Aaron Jacks. A Jumping Castle on William Angliss Reserve was buzzing away and our Sponsors Camberwell Sports and Spinal Medicine were on call for any aches and pains.

The Seniors match HCC City vs Country came up next with City batting first for their 20 overs. It was an ideal way to show off our new HCC One Day uniform which has been a real hit.
City made a respectable 7/148 (Tilley 40 retired, Steve Pask 29 and 4/24) before a lunch break to allow the Juniors game to commence.

In the Junior's Match, Harry Kerr's team hit up 106 with Brad Katon smashing 52 not out and Alasdair O'Donnell took 2/3. They defeated John Kiely's team with some fine bowling from John Weber 3/12, and Will Sitch 2/6, while John Kiely top scored with 29.

One of the more entertaining aspects of the game was the innovative umpiring from Wazza, who put a new spin on the role of "Chairman".  "Anyone for tennis Waz?" Good idea, Square Leg ump. wants one too.

After a fine BBQ lunch with vegetarian curries, the Captain's Sprint Handicap was run and won by the front marker, Russel Cool representing the 3rd XI. The Senior's 2nd innings commenced after a "minutes silence" for the Victorian Bushfire Victims.

In the Second Senior Innings, Country XI really came out to play with a commanding strike rate. They were coasting to victory until 3 late wickets gave City XI a sniff. Captain Matty Laing, who'd been retired on a scintillating 40 n.o. confidently strode out to bat and knocked up the winning run. Christian Zavecz cracked 33 while Dan Larkin earlier picked up 3/13 for the Country team. Man of the Match - Matty Laing.

MC for the afternoon was Treasurer Nick Monk, who found great delight in amusing the audience with his unique brand of wit. Aided by a few brews we believe! Also Aaron Jacks dropped the big news he had romantically proposed the night before to his long term girlfriend Nicola on Valentines Day. Nicola  accepted! Congratulations to the happy couple pictured above.
